The Croatian National Theatre Split and the Mediterranean Film Festival Split continue their collaboration in the new theatre season with the FMFS in the Theatre programme.
The first screening of the season is the Split premiere of the feature film The Celebration, directed by Bruno Anković and written by Jelena Paljan, based on the acclaimed, multi-award-winning novel of the same name by Damir Karakaš. The screening will take place on Thursday, 14 November at 9 pm. Attending the gala screening will be director Bruno Anković, lead actors Bernard Tomić, Klara Fiolić and Krešimir Mikić, screenwriter Jelena Paljan, producer Tina Tišljar, and the novel’s author Damir Karakaš.
The film spans some twenty years in the life of its protagonist and his family in a poor village in the Lika region. At the end of the Second World War, exhausted and defeated, soldier Mijo hides in the forest, watching his home village from a distance, unable to return. Through three key moments in his life, Mijo takes us on a journey into the past, exploring the circumstances that lead to the rise of extremism within society.
The Celebration had its world premiere at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. At the Pula Film Festival, it was awarded the Grand Golden Arena for Best Croatian Film, as well as Golden Arenas for Best Screenplay, Cinematography and Best Actor (Bernard Tomić).
Tickets are available at the box office and online via the Croatian National Theatre Split website.
