With the "mali meDITEran" program, we aim to introduce our youngest visitors to quality European production through specially selected film programmes, introduce them to independent cinemas, and encourage education through entertainment by using accompanying activities. We have prepared short and feature-length animated films intended for children aged 0+.
The Dutch-Belgian "Tummy Tom and the Lost Teddy Bear" was specifically made for the youngest children, with the idea of making it one of their first cinematic experiences. For this film, directed by Joost van den Bosch and Erik Verkerk, the voices for the Croatian dubbing were provided by children from Zagreb's kindergarten and first grade elementary schools, and the little ones in the cinema are invited to sing, clap and dance alongside the characters.
For children aged 3+, this year, in collaboration with Zagreb's Animafest, we are bringing a block of short films "Baking with Boris and Friends", and we are opening the programme with an exciting adventure for all ages, the Spanish film "The Light of Aisha", which premiered at the Malaga Film Festival and was directed by Shadi Adib.
The Croatian Audiovisual Center has launched a new educational programme called "Cinema, Game, Film", which includes educational screenings of Croatian video games, intended for children and young people.
The programme brings us a block of short animated short films: "Tonka Will Do It Tomorrow" directed by Morana Dolenc, "Silence of the Sea" directed by Vjekoslav Živković, and last year's FMFS winner "Žarko, You Will Spoil The Child!" directed by Veljko and Milivoj Popović.
After the screening, we’re having a joint analysis of the film, followed by the presentation of the new domestic video game "Bura - The Way the Wind Blows" by Rea Budić, which the youngest audience will be able to try out on the computers of the Zlatna vrata cinematheque.
The film programme will be accompanied by interactive and educational workshops for children aged 5+, and this year, in addition to the now traditional workshops of making movie posters and video games, we will also present a new workshop.
This is a three-day "REC" workshop, during which children will illustrate their emotions on the topic of "emotions" in the first phase, under the guidance of Hana Tintor, and in the second phase, under the guidance of actress Petra Cicvarić, they will turn these illustrations into an audio story. Ultimately, they will film the story with actor and director Ivan Đuričić in Split's PILOT studio, and after editing, they will be able to watch their short animated film.
The creative workshop "Movie Posters Through Children’s Eyes" will take place after the screenings of the short film "Baking with Boris and Friends" and the feature-length animated film "Tummy Tom and the Lost Teddy Bear", led by Ivana and Julija Antunović.
Our favorite workshop "From an Idea to a Video Game" is organized in collaboration with Aniq Tech from Novska, led by Matej Balašković. During the workshop, children will create their own video game, which they will then be able to share with family and friends.
