Take a peek of the first details of the 18th Mediterranean Film Festival Split, which opens on 12th of June at the Open-Air Cinema Bačvice. As always, the visual identity has been eagerly awaited, yet again created by Karlo Kazinoti.
- Lending a hand is one of those old skills that you somehow master on your own without any manual, which is unthinkable in today's digital world. There is no greater pleasure than sneaking into a good festival or a concert, that excitement always contributes to greater pleasure and experience. The festival itself is like a good way of lending a hand to the viewer and the film director; it helps to bypass certain barriers. While lending a hand, both participants engage in a small physical effort that at that moment puts them in a new position in which they depend on each other, and mutual trust is important. Coming of age opens up new perspectives on the world around you, and at that moment you take responsibility for your actions and behaviour – these are the words with which Karlo Kazinoti explains the idea of this year's visual identity.
The honour of opening the 18th MFFS goes to director Amel Guellaty, who will personally present her exciting and moving road film "Where the Wind Comes From", starring charismatic actors Eye Bellaghe and Slima Baccarat. This Tunisian film premiered in the competition programme of this year's Sundance Film Festival, and had its European premiere in Rotterdam.
MFFS closes with the offbeat black comedy "The Shallow tale of a Writer Who Decided to Write About a Serial Killer" with a strong cast led by Steve Buscemi, John Magaro and Britt Lower. Turkish director Tolga Karaçelik, known for the hit film "Butterflies" (Kelebekler), will personally present it to the Split audience. "The Shallow Tale" premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, where it was immediately awarded by the audience.
The favorite cultural event, which gives the audience the opportunity to see the premieres of film titles that have delighted at the world's largest festivals, will take place from 12th to 21st June at the Open-Air Cinema Bačvice, Gripe Fortress, Zlatna vrata Cinematheque, but also at a new location, a free cinema in Đardin.
